Replaced Components
The 1987-1999 Pontiac Bonneville is built with the following rear suspension components:

1987-1999 Pontiac Bonneville Air Struts (x2) - struts that contain an air bladder whose dampening capabilities is controlled by the suspension control module; they serve two purposes. These connect the wheel of a vehicle to the driving surface in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle. They also help maintain the vehicles correct ride height, especially whenever the amount of load put onto the vehicle changes.

1987-1999 Pontiac Bonneville Coil Springs (x2) - what we love! Coil springs hold the vehicle up but be careful, they are rated for and designed to work with the rest of the suspension system, so when you change air shocks to passive shocks, then you will need a different rated coil spring that works well with the new type of shocks.

1987-1999 Pontiac Bonneville Height Sensors (x2) - a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out.

1987-1999 Pontiac Bonneville Air Lines - tubes that run from a compressor to the air which carry pressurized air to the air struts in order to adjust the height of the vehicle, respectively.

1987-1999 Pontiac Bonneville Compressor Assembly - creates/sends pressurized to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive.

1987-1999 Pontiac Bonneville Dryer - prevents moisture build-up inside of air suspension parts.

1987-1999 Pontiac Bonneville Suspension Control Module - a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicles correct ride height.

1987-1999 Pontiac Bonneville O-rings - Although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.

Suspension Failure Signs

The air suspension system on the 1987-1999 Pontiac Bonneville might be leaking or going bad if it displays the following classic symptoms of suspension failure. A suddenly uneven height difference between different sides of the Bonneville is a major red flag. Generally, the rear end sags while the front end remains inflated. This gives the illusion the Bonneville is squatting down. A height imbalance will eventually wear out the air compressor if it is not fixed promptly. If the air compressor runs too often or stops working, suspension failure will advance. An illuminated suspension warning light on the instrument cluster will confirm a suspension issue. If the Bonneville is unable to maintain the proper ride height, a suspension repair or replacement is necessary.

The original air suspension system on the Pontiac Bonneville is comprised of assorted parts that must always function in sync. Strutmasters' air to non-air suspension conversion kit permanently eliminates this reliance. The kit, made in America, comes complete with two custom-rated coil springs and two hydraulic fluid gas-charged struts for the rear of the vehicle. The kit is an affordable direct replacement solution, so no modifications are needed before it's installed. Customers appreciate the detailed instructions and online installation videos that help guide a smooth repair. The quality parts are guaranteed by Strutmasters' 1-year warranty, which provides customers with peace of mind. ASE certified experts are available to offer tech support over the phone, for those who need it. Installation takes approximately one hour per wheel and the suspension warning light turns off after about thirty minutes. Designed to save Bonneville owners time, frustration, and money, this kit truly fits the bill. The kit costs a fraction of the price of dealership direct replacement and individual part replacement.
