Why Choose Strutmasters
Why Choose Strutmasters
The original assorted parts that make up the air suspension system on the 97-02 Ford Expedition must each function in sync, at all times. Given that many parts are moving parts and therefore destined to fail at some point, this means a string of costly repairs is inevitable if you stay with an air suspension. This can get expensive as most Expeditions require multiple visits to the dealership service center for air suspension repair and replacement parts. As The Suspension Experts, we knew there had to be a better way. We created the air to non-air suspension conversion kit FX1RB to solve these problems when you have a failed suspension system. This kit includes two coil springs to delete the airbags and two OEM-style replacement rear shocks. We offer the only kit on the market that includes high-quality cold-wound steel springs. Our customers will attest that the kit saved them time, frustration and money. In fact, the low price is what convinces most of them to make the switch when choosing between an air vs non-air suspension system. Look above on this page where we compare the prices of your three options: that of repairing your air suspension system at the Ford dealer, that of installing aftermarket air suspension parts on your Expedition individually, and that of eliminating the faulty air ride headache forever by installing a Strutmasters new coil spring suspension conversion kit today.

Replaced Components
The 1997-2002 Ford Expedition (4WD) is built with the following rear suspension components: 1997-2002 Ford Expedition (4WD) Air Springs (x2) - These plastic and rubber sacks are filled with pressurized air and sit on top of the strut in order to cushion the ride and hold the vehicle up off of its wheels. If your air suspension has a leak, these are the likely source. They all go bad at the same rate so if one needs replacing, the others do too. 1997-2002 Ford Expedition (4WD) Shock Absorbers (x2) - These absorbers are metal cylinders filled with a hydraulic fluid connect to the wheels of the vehicle to control how bouncy the ride is. 1997-2002 Ford Expedition (4WD) Air Lines- These rubber hoses transport pressurized air into the air springs from the compressor. 1997-2002 Ford Expedition (4WD) Compressor Assembly- This small machine creates pressurized air and pushes it out through the air lines to the air springs to keep the system inflated. It is the most expensive component in an air suspension system and also the most difficult to replace. When leaks happen in the system, the compressor will try to compensate by working harder, leading to its early failure. 1997-2002 Ford Expedition (4WD) Torsion Bar- This adjustable horizontal piece sits in the front of the car, holding it up off of the ground. 1997-2002 Ford Expedition (4WD) Dryer- This component prevents moisture, which damages an air suspension from the inside out, from building up inside of the air lines and air bags. 1997-2002 Ford Expedition (4WD) Suspension Control Module- This small computer electronically manages the operations of an air suspension system. It controls the parts which help the vehicle maintain the correct ride height.
Suspension Failure Signs
If you suspect that your Expedition might be having problems with its air suspension, there are a few warning signs to look for even before the suspension warning light comes on. The most common symptom would be a rear end that sags low to the ground while the front end remains held up with the torsion bar. You may also notice a height differential between the passenger and driver sides of the vehicle. The compressor will make excessive noise or run for too long if there are leaks or other problems within the suspension system. Early detection is crucial to preventing total failure of the suspension system which can result in serious safety issues and incredibly expensive repairs.
