Replaced Components
The 2001-2006 Mercedes Benz CL55 is built with the following suspension components:

2001-2006 Mercedes Benz CL55 Hydraulic Struts (x4)- a plastic and rubber bag that is fitted onto a strut that uses pressurized hydraulic fluid as a cushion instead of a metal coil spring to hold a vehicle off of the ground and off of its wheels. These struts are controlled by the suspension control module, which is also responsible for redistributing hydraulic fluid to the struts as a means of weight distribution while cornering. All hydraulic springs all go bad at about the same rate. If one is leaking, the others will not be far behind. For a proper repair, all of them need to be replaced at the same time.
2001-2006 Mercedes Benz CL55 Height Sensors (x4)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out.
2001-2006 Mercedes Benz CL55 Hydraulic Lines- tubes that run from a hydraulic pump to the hydraulic struts which carry hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic struts.
2001-2006 Mercedes Benz CL55 Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the hydraulic suspension system and maintaining the vehicles correct ride height.
2001-2006 Mercedes Benz CL55 O-rings- although they are the least expensive parts of the hydraulic suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the hydraulic lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any hydraulic suspension system.

Suspension Failure Signs
There are signs that the suspension has gone bad on your 2001-2006 Mercedes Benz CL55. Look for a sudden noticeable uneven height difference between sides of the vehicle. This could mean leaking or failed suspension. You may notice your CL55 sagging in the front or rear, leaning from side to side, or the entire body can look like it’s squatting too low to the ground. A properly working suspension should provide a consistent and appropriate ride height at all times; if it’s not, you may be needing a repair or replacement. Other signs to look for are an illuminated warning message or light on your CL55 instrument cluster, as well as a non-working hydraulic pump. A noisy hydraulic pump is also an indicator. If you let a failed suspension go on for too long, other vehicle components will wear out.

OEM Replacement Cost

+ Hydraulic Struts ($2,000/strut)
+ Hydraulic Pump ($2,020)
= TOTAL: Over $10,000 (and that doesnt even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).

Aftermarket Replacement Cost

+ Front Hydraulic Struts ($510/strut)
+ Rear Hydraulic Struts($940/strut)
+ Hydraulic Pump ($1,030)
= TOTAL: Over $3,900 (and that doesn't even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).

An air suspension system is comprised of an assortment of parts. Strutmasters conversion kit eliminates the dependence on these parts functioning properly and in sync. This kit, for your 2001-2006 Mercedes Benz CL55, includes four new pre-assembled front coil-over struts using coil springs. The kit is installed in about one hour per wheel and was created with our loyal DIYers in mind. The parts we use are high quality (backed by our 1-year warranty) and the cost difference is huge. The conversion saves time and money- lots of it. Below, we outline the cost difference between choosing a hydraulic vs non-hydraulic suspension system. We compare three prices: the price for repairing hydraulic suspension system at the dealership, the price for installing aftermarket hydraulic suspension parts on your own, and the price of eliminating hydraulic ride for good and installing our brand-new coil-over suspension conversion kit.
