Replaced Components

The 2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT is built with the following suspension components:

2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT Rear Air Springs (x2)- commonly referred to as air bags, a plastic and rubber bag that uses pressurized air as a cushion (instead of a metal coil spring) to support the weight of the rear of the vehicle. These rubber air springs are the number one cause of all air suspension leaks.

2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT Front Struts (x2)- a type of shock absorber; has metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that dampens vibration and controls bouncing motion caused by travel on rough road surfaces.

2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT Rear Shock Absorbers (x2)- a metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that dampens vibration and controls bouncing motion caused by travel on rough road surfaces.

2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT Height Sensors (x2)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle that constantly measures the height of the vehicle and reports this information back to the suspension control module. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out.

2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT Air Lines- tubes that carry compressed air from an onboard air compressor to the rear air springs.

2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT Solenoids (x4)- These plastic and metal components regulate the air pressure for each air spring. Solenoids start to leak as they wear out, causing the air system to leak air pressure, resulting in a loss of ride height.

2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT Compressor- Creates and sends pressurized air to the rear air springs. The compressor (also called an air pump) typically fails from being overworked due to tiny cracks that seep air from the rubber air springs -- forcing the compressor to run constantly trying to maintain correct PSI.

2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT Dryer Assembly- used to keep moisture out of air lines and air springs in order to prevent freezing and internal cracking of these parts. Once air suspension starts leaking, moisture will build-up throughout the air system. Moisture damages the air suspension from the inside. The dryer will need to be replaced in order to eliminate the moisture and prevent any further damage.

2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicle's correct ride height.

2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT Rubber O-rings- Although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.

Suspension Failure Signs
The most common sign of an air suspension failure on your 2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT is a sudden loss of three to five inches of ride height in the rear of the vehicle. There may be a shifting lean from one side to the other. If the Trailblazer is having any issues with reaching and maintaining its proper ride height, the air suspension is failing. If not fixed promptly, other major suspension components may wear out, too. For example, the air compressor will get overworked when rubber air springs start to leak and the compressor may stop working completely. The compressor may become very noisy right before it fails. One final red flag to look for is an illuminated suspension warning light on the instrument panel. Cracked and leaking rubber air springs are the number one reason the air suspension system fails. Experienced technicians recommend replacing ALL of the air suspension's major components to have the best chance of a successful repair. This is why the Suspension Conversion Kit from Strutmasters is such a popular alternative to a high-dollar overhaul of the entire air system.

OEM Replacement Cost

+ Struts ($329/strut)
+ Gas Shocks ($159/Gas Shocks)
+ Air Spring ($279/air bag)
+ Compressor and Dryer Assembly ($220)
= TOTAL: Over $2,400 (and that doesn't even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).

Strutmasters' customers say the low price and high quality of our suspension conversion kit are what convinces them to switch when their Trailblazer EXT air suspension fails. This is the only kit on the market that includes two cold-wound steel springs for the rear suspension of the Trailblazer. The kit, manufactured in America, eliminates dependency on the faulty and complicated electrical components that make up the original air suspension system. Designed to save Trailblazer owners time, frustration, and money, the kit can be installed in as little as one hour per wheel. Strutmasters' technicians are available to answer questions for our customers and their installer.
